Pew Reports Dangers of Virginia Payday Loans and Title Loans - OppLoans

Pew Reports Dangers of Virginia Payday Loans and Title Loans - OppLoans Pew Reports Dangers of Virginia Payday Loans and Title Loans Pew Reports Dangers of Virginia Payday Loans and Title LoansInside Subprime: October 17, 2019By Lindsay FrankelA new report from Pew Charitable Trusts revealed that Virginia payday loans and title loans are some of the most harmful in the country for borrowers. These types of credit cost Virginians up to three times more than in other states.  Borrowers can get payday and title loans without a credit check, which makes them appealing to people with bad credit or no credit history. But these borrowers are often some of the most vulnerable to enduring financial harm from high interest and fees; payday lenders disproportionately impact low-income people, minorities, military members, seniors, and people with disabilities. And payday loans aren’t used only for emergencies or only on a one-time basis. 69 percent of Americans use these risky loans for regular expenses like rent and food, and the average borrower stays in debt five months out of the year.Hundreds of thousands of Virginians use payday loans without the protection of robust regulations. Borrowers pay an average of 251 percent APR on Virginia payday loans. In some ways, title loans are an even bigger problem for Virginians. Because it costs $2,700 on average to pay back a $1,116 title loan, many cash-strapped borrowers struggle to meet their payments. And since borrowers give up the titles of their cars as collateral, going into default leads to repossession. One in eight Virginia title loan borrowers have their cars repossessed each year. That’s one of the highest rates in the nation. And lenders sell 79 percent of those vehicles when borrowers don’t have the money to reclaim them. But while borrowers are suffering from loss of transportation, making it difficult for them to work and earn income, title loan companies are flourishing. There has been a 130 percent increase in the number of title loan storefronts since 2010.Pew also pointed out that more modern regulations would encourage low-cost lend ers to operate in the state and increase competition, all while creating more affordable financial products for Virginians in need.Learn more about payday loans, scams, and cash advances by checking out our city and state financial guides, including Virginia, Ohio, Chicago, Illinois, Florida, Texas, and more.Visit OppLoans on YouTube | Facebook | Twitter | LinkedIn

Why Physical Education should not be Compulsory - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 4 Words: 1247 Downloads: 5 Date added: 2019/10/10 Did you like this example? ‘To all Members, I take this opportunity to thank you for attending this important forum.   Today we are glad to celebrate our annual meeting. My main agenda at this podium is to address the issue on why it’s no longer necessary to have physical education in our curriculum. As we all know physical activities improve the human body conditions and even boost the body immunity system. This happens especially when one conduct such activities under the instructions of a trained sport expert who got experience on what benefits one get after training a particular body part, moreover physical activities aids in enhancing body metabolism system which burn fats and cholesterol in bodies making our bodies to be physically fit and healthy. Physical Education has so far being introduced to many schools as either a compulsory or an optional subject. Most schools in the entire globe have got physical education classes either at an advanced level or at basic level. Such programs are designed at the ministry level and curriculamme is distributed to teaching institutions and administered by professional teachers who took specialty in similar courses during their training. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Why Physical Education should not be Compulsory?" essay for you Create order Since time in memorial physical education have being taught in many schools and in some schools it’s more of fun and sports, while in other schools it’s a compulsory subject. It is one of those subjects that are crucial when it comes to designing any school curriculum. More than often the course is run for two to three days in any given school timetable or rather the teaching schedule. There are more of practical’s learnt as compared to theory lessons. The big question is should this subject be made compulsory? What disadvantages does it have to offer? Is it possible for parents and children to be allowed to make decisions on whether to enroll for this particular class? How has it being made a compulsory unit across the globe? No, it should not be compulsory Many are nations around the globe which have left it optional amongst scholars and the good thing is that both those who are in it and even those out of it are healthier, so being a student for this program doesn’t warrant good health amongst scholars. In some schools physical education is taught in lower grades as it used to keep student busy while in upper classes it is used to relieve student boredom from academic related activities, therefore you find that in most schools the programme is not strictly followed and hence not examinable. More than often student not interested in physical activities are found sitted in groups sharing stories and others are busy doing other activities which seem beneficial to them. To majority of the students since the course is not examinable they find it as time wastage and they would rather do activities that will directly improves their grades such as attending the library and doing assignment. Most of this physical education content includes active exercises, games and sports which at times exposes the body to many more injuries which are avoidable in case one is not enrolled for such particular courses, for instance when students are out there playing one can break his or her arm, leg, neck and the list is endless, such injuries will be a huge loss especially when a student have to spend a whole semester at home or at the hospital nursing injuries, while else this time would be utilized effectively in doing studies which will be evaluated after a particular course duration.   So to many schools and nations having this kind of an exposure to injuries is an enough reason on why it should not be made compulsory. Those students who seem to be weak physically may not be in a position to compete fairly with their counter parts who are physically strong and this can lead to them getting profiled out of their performance and at the end of it all bring in demoralization. Mostly you find that boys will play with other boys and girls will play with other girls this alone brings in gender division since girls have their own games and boys have their own, if a boy steps in the field with girls he will be profiled to be girlish and vice versa this in itself discourages boys to work with girls even when they get back to class work.   So you find that in one school one gender is doing better as compared to the rest. Even in gender specific sports you will experience discrimination as in those that come from one race are excluded from the rest, if let say a girl or a boy is genetically blessed with a big body size he will be profiled to be fat and this really affects their self-esteem. Additionally during this kind of a session those who are strong can actually bully those who are weak making them hate their school life which will ultimately affects their grades. Especially for those students who are academically oriented, they may be bullied by their fellows who seem to perform well in physical educations as compared to other subjects being offered in schools. Such form of bullying may be extreme and lead to some student hurting others physically, emotionally with their actions and this may increase school dropout cases and even extra budget to parents who are forced to move their students from one school to another unexpectedly. At times physical education may not be favorable for physically challenged students due to their physical inabilities they might seem to be less interested in such activities and therefore are left feeling sidelined; this will affect their self-esteem and eventually making them perform poorly in school. Additionally for physically challenged students involving them in physical education might add pain to their ailing bodies if at all the kind of instructions given is strenuous. On other hand if that student is given time and resources to do other favorable activities they will be more productive and happier in their school life since they are only required to do what they are capable of doing. Compulsory physical education classes do limit one from choosing what he really wants to utilize his time on. Some people have no interest in physical activities and they only maintain the basic form of physical fitness such as walking around, doing household chores for instance cooking and washing detergents. At times its believed that physical education can assist in identifying talents among young scholars, which can be developed to careers but to be sincere out of a thousand advertised jobs you will find that only one or close to nil is sport oriented vacancy and this one makes it almost negligible in the job market. In conclusion, what i believe is that physical education is necessary and especially to our school going kids, since it’s in that exercise that they get to develop their bodies and get to socialize but in a nut shell it’s not the only means they can achieve healthy bodies and get to socialize such activities can be done during free time and even far away from time, so let’s utilize the little time for school to whatever is examinable and whatever suits everyone despite their physical inabilities. I want to give this chance to whoever may have a question, if there is none I would like to hand over the microphone to the master of ceremony, Thank you†

The Graphic Memoir Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi - 546 Words

It did not take me very long to get through the graphic memoir, Persepolis not only because it is a sort of comic book, but because I could not put it down. I chose to read the interview between Robert Root and Marjane Satrapi instead of the TED talk because I love the raw dialogue between the two. Through this interview, Satrapi’s strong independence and blunt words ring through loud and clear just as her character in Persepolis. I find her honesty very refreshing, â€Å"I have always said, even verbally, orally, that I was nasty. I am very much a fan of imperfection, actually. This idea of perfection-I think really, it’s the beginning of the fascism, this idea of perfection†. The woman being interview is very much the young girl that hit her principal then said, oopsy, â€Å"I didn’t mean it!† I can honestly say, that this graphic memoir opened my eyes to the female perspective in Iran during the time of the Shah to the revolution and beyond. Before reading Persepolis, I had a single worldview of the Middle East. I thought that women would be treated the same way in most countries-as unequal to a man as it can get. I pictured women unable to have respectable jobs and never being able to show much more skin than their hands and face. When Satrapi says, â€Å"The basic culture is not that the woman is nothing—Iran is not Saudi Arabia—the women, they are educated, they are cultivated, they work. Sibling Relations and Subsequent Characteristic Traits

The loss of parents has devastating effects on the lives of the children. Suddenly, the children have to learn to exist without the comfort and sense of re-assurance that parents tend to give to their children – whether young or old.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Sibling Relations and Subsequent Characteristic Traits specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The absence of parents makes the children relate to each other in a different manner. In most cases, the elder siblings tend to take up the parental role; however, unprepared they are, and the subsequent relations between the elder and younger siblings often bring out certain character traits and qualities in them as individuals. The relationship between siblings whose parents are absent due to death or other factors and the subsequent life struggles the siblings endure, frequently bring out certain qualities and characteristics in them. Mostly, the elder siblings develop a responsible, tough, and unselfish personality, while the younger siblings often become dependent and irresponsible; all siblings, however, acquire sacrificial qualities in the end. In the absence of parents due to death or other factors, elder siblings conventionally have to step in and play the parental role, making these elder siblings become responsible and focused individuals. Inevitably, many elder siblings are suddenly faced with the responsibility of taking care of their younger siblings, filling in the void left by the absent parents. Many of the actions of the elder siblings are geared towards providing a sense of emotional and situational balance for the younger siblings, who are more heavily affected by the absence of the parents (Dunn 788). In most cases, the elder siblings, as a result, become highly responsible and focused individuals. In the instance where the age gap between the eldest siblings and the younger one(s) is significant, the elde r sibling often becomes a veritable parent to the younger siblings. If the eldest sibling is involved in any income-earning activity, he or she will be the breadwinner for the younger siblings as expected, and will have to accommodate the needs of the younger siblings in all the plans he or she makes. Out of the relationship between the elder sibling and the younger siblings, in which the elder sibling has to play the ‘parent’ role, a keen sense of responsibility develops in the elder siblings. The elder sibling, regardless of age, has to become the guardian to the younger siblings, and such a responsibility creates a responsible character in the elder siblings.Advertising Looking for research paper on psychology? The elder siblings thus become tough and almost emotionally inexpressive due to this. Because the pain from parental loss is indiscriminate, it affects, hurts, and leaves the older siblings scared and abandoned in the same manner it does the younger siblings. However, the older siblings are not given the opportunity to grieve or express these emotions because they immediately have to fill in the physical and emotional gap left in the family due to the death of parents. Because the elder siblings have to be emotionally strong for the younger siblings, they perfect the art of hiding their feelings. Moreover, given that the elder siblings are expected to be the role model and a source of refuge for the younger siblings when life for these younger siblings gets a bit tough, the elder siblings do not get a chance to ‘wear their hearts on their sleeves’. Even when the occasion calls for a bit of emotional expressiveness, the elder siblings w ill frequently tend to feign a sense of indifference to the situation, so that the younger siblings can get the chance to vent their anger and express their emotions. According to Schlomer et al, whenever the family is in a crisis, the siblings turn to each other for emotional support†¦crises like divorce, parental separation, terminal illnesses in a parent, or death of a parent push the siblings to turn to each other (290). If the sibling age difference is substantial, the elder sibling has to be emotionally competent for the younger sibling(s). Therefore, in most cases, the elder siblings do not usually get the personal opportunity to express their feelings, and thus become emotionally inexpressive and find it harder to express their feelings freely. Additionally, younger siblings are likely to exploit the abundant kindness shown to them by their elder siblings, thereby developing carefree attitudes and cultivating a culture of being irresponsible. The benefits of having stro ng sibling relations, however, tend to be exploited by the younger siblings sometimes. According to Kramer and Conger, modeling is not the only way that younger siblings learn from their elder siblings. Even though younger siblings tend to endeavor to emulate the behavior of the elder siblings, the reverse is also true (4). The influence of peers on the younger siblings tends to be stronger than that of the model elder sibling. Therefore, if the younger sibling does not share mutual friends with the elder sibling, then the influence of the younger sibling’s friends overrides that of the elder siblings in most cases.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Sibling Relations and Subsequent Characteristic Traits specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Subsequently, as the responsible elder siblings endeavor to make the life of the younger sibling better, the younger siblings sometimes take advantage and exploit th is kindness for their own selfish ends. Kramer and Conger, for instance, state that the younger siblings are more likely to drop out of school due to early pregnancies or substance abuse whilst cohabiting with the elder sibling. Furthermore, when the elder sibling sets standards in life and educational achievement that the younger sibling may find impossible to emulate, the younger sibling channels these frustrations into self-harmful habits such as drug abuse and become more susceptible to negative peer influence (6). As a result, the younger siblings develop a careless approach to life issues and become irresponsible. Elder siblings, for the sake of their younger siblings, often plan their individual lives to fit to the needs of their younger siblings. The elder siblings thus develop unselfish characteristics. The relationship amongst siblings involves many dynamics. There is a direct relationship between how the younger sibling eventually makes his or her life choices in adulthoo d. Such relationship also exists in the influence of the elder sibling on the younger sibling’s life. Gerbert states that, when the elder sibling is supportive of the younger sibling(s), the younger siblings turn out to be more competent than a child who does not receive the emotional, social, and material support of an elder sibling (1389). Such a positive influence by the elder sibling indicates an unselfish characteristic. Oftentimes, hardships endured together strengthen the relationship between siblings; they are more adjusted to life’s common hardships, and such siblings are able to sacrifice their individual desires, dreams, and hopes for the sake of their siblings. These siblings thus mutually develop sacrificial attitudes and characters. The loss of parents, especially in childhood leaves the siblings little option but to draw strength from each other as they grow up. According to Mack, siblings who lose their parents when they are young tend to have stronger adult relationships than siblings who lose their parents as adults (145).Advertising Looking for research paper on psychology? For instance, the shared struggles between the two brothers, the narrator and Sonny, eventually strengthen their relationship. Having overcome their initial relations, the two brothers in â€Å"Sonny’s Blues† get to appreciate each other’s exclusive dreams and desires in life. Therefore, the loss of parents has the effect of strengthening sibling relations overall, especially if the loss occurs when the children are young. These siblings, in most cases, are thus able and willing to sacrifice for each other and thus acquire a sacrificial character especially towards each other and those close to them. In Conclusion, how siblings relate to each other, especially in the absence of parents, functions to bring out certain characteristics and personalities in the siblings in most cases . The sudden departure of a parent from the family scene has a significant effect on the immediate and future well-being of the children. Most of the time, the children have to make emotional, moral, social and even economic re-adjustments to their lives. All these re-adjustments make the siblings turn to each other for support and re-assurance and such a relationship brings out certain qualities in the siblings. The elder siblings tend to be responsible, emotionally mature, and altruistic, while the younger siblings tend to be irresponsible. Both of them eventually do develop a mutual respect and love for each other, based on shared difficult life experiences as siblings whose parents are absent.
